NC Start Fair Is Getting Social

The North Carolina State Fair is getting its toes wet with social media for the 2008 State Fair marketing and promotion.  It will be interesting to see how the blogand cover the fair as it is actually happening, I think Twitter, Plurk and Brightkite could be really helpful to aggregate coverage and provide updates.

Below is their take on this effort from their official blog:

Not that we weren’t before, but this is the first year that the Fair has gone virtual with this blog, a YouTube channel, and Facebook and MySpace
pages. We decided to launch all of these sites to keep up with the
changing pace of the 24 hour news world we now live in…and to connect
with all of you!

Are any of you State Fair-lovers out there also
jumping on the social media bandwagon? It’s a good time to do it, as
today Facebook unveiled its newest version that is supposed to make the Web site cleaner and easier to navigate. The News & Observer also has a story in it today that goes into more detail.

Becoming
our Friend is a great way to keep up with the latest Fair news, but
it’s also a way to have fun with some of the unusual features both
sites have. For example, both have running countdowns that let you know
down to the second how long you have to wait until you’re holding a
giant turkey leg in your hands (87 days, 1 hour, 29 minutes and 13
seconds, to be exact). On our Facebook page,
you can share "bumper stickers" that proclaim your love for the Fair,
as well as browse through an album of classic Fair pictures. If you’re
more of a MySpace fanatic, you can hob-knob with Fair performers Josh
Turner, Lady Antebellum, Mario and more–we hate to brag (cough, cough)
but all of these talented performers are in our Top Friends.

Also, a big shout out to WRAL for mentioning our blog.
We’ve added its State Fair blog to our Blog Roll so be sure to check it
out. Technology reporter Tara Calishain had some cool ideas for future
blog post
